Client loyalty and retention is always going to be a major focus for your salon. With the recession, even if clients are extremely loyal they may visit less frequently. By making that cut and colour go that little bit longer you can find yourself with unpredictable weeks and months with spikes and dips in turnover.
By creating a gym-inspired membership system, where clients pay a single fee each month for a set number of services, you can create a regular and predictable income for the salon. You could create different membership tiers, for example Gold, Silver and Bronze. The higher the tier, the more it costs but you would also get additional services, be able to visit more often, and attend special events for VIP clients.
Something like:
Bronze Membership
A cut every two months
A colour service every two months
Silver Membership
Cut every six weeks
Colour service every six weeks
Treatment at every visit
Gold Membership
Cut every four weeks
Colour every four weeks
Treatment at every visit
Shampoo and Conditioner to take home every eight weeks
Invitation to special The Colour Brush evening events every three months.
When you price up the memberships make sure to include a discount compared to the client buying the services all individually. So, over the course of the whole year it may save them 5%-10%.
Lastly, remind your clients that they need to use the services within a certain time frame or they become invalid. So if they are on the Gold Membership and they go two months without a cut or colour, they don’t get to save them up and have two colours in one moth. Once the month has passed, they start again. So, like a gym membership some people will probably end paying their monthly bill, but not taking full advantage of the package. But, you still get your monthly fee from them.
Let us know how you get on, and if you were to do a membership system what would your clients get?
