Consultation weeks for the quiet months

After the Christmas indulgence of mince pies, turkey, spiced Christmas coffees and the expense of presents, we’re probably all feeling the pinch on our wallets. January is normally ‘buckle down and stop spending’ time, and is often quite a quiet time in the salon.

To try and bring appointments forwards and get your January busy, offer your clients special consultation meetings in the first couple of weeks of the year. Reassure them that it’s a completely free New Year’s Resolution Consultation to plan what they want to achieve for 2014. Then once you’ve got them visualising their new look, secure a booking for as soon as possible. If you’re able to, why not even try and get them to have their first cut, colour or treatment right then and there.

It’s important to make sure the bookings are different from your normal consultations. Don’t be afraid to make them a lot longer. Ask, in detail, about their previous hair colours and styles, and find out how they felt about each one and what inspired them; look through magazines like Vogue, W and Runway, and online at sites like The Satorialist and HJi; use your own moodboards and look books. The idea is to give your clients as much as possible to help them and you create a picture of what they want their hair in the new year. Break out the mince pies and mulled wine as well, if you’re stomach can handle it! 😉

Lastly, this doesn’t have to only happen in January. If you predict any quiet months, plan ahead and get free resolution consultations penciled in to help you secure more bookings.

Let us know how you get on.
